Leslie Howard's narration highlights the emotional upheaval and deep-seated anxiety of college student Jane Sharp. After her father's death, Jane finds solace in an online group of true-crime enthusiasts. Jane assists the group with some early cases, but when the murders of three college women in Idaho hit the news, Jane becomes obsessed. Howard delivers an edgy, slightly out-of-control Jane, who is convinced by her own strong opinions. Howard's character sketches of the group members offer a variety of credible voices and attitudes. Although Howard misses much of the novel's dark humor, the Idaho murders and their grisly details are so real they could have been ripped from recent headlines. The dangers of amateur sleuthing, the twisty plotting, and the psychological explorations are handled well by Howard. S.J.H. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2025]
