Though this book was written in 1984, before the dissolution of the USSR, it's so exciting that it doesn't seem dated. Filled with spies, moles, double agents, sex, romance, and vivid scenes of torture, it takes Tony Abrams--super-smart, witty ex-cop-soon-to-be lawyer--to unravel the plot and distinguish the heroes from the villains. It's a wonder how the talented Scott Brick manages to keep listeners enthralled for 23 hours. He does it with excellent pacing and voices that are perfect matches for the characters' personalities, and by injecting the action with dramatic flair. There is an engaging thread of humor that runs through the book, and Brick delivers it with perfect timing, never interrupting the flow of the narrative.
