When veterans of the war with Iraq (the 1991 version) came home with bizarre medical conditions lumped together as Gulf War Syndrome, people wanted answers. They were never forthcoming, though there was a theory that perhaps the problems were due to contaminated vaccines that were meant to protect. Ken McClure takes that theory to new levels with his book, which purports to explain exactly how such a horrible mess could happen--and how it could happen again. John Keogh has a rough-and-tumble voice that goes from grandfather to drill sergeant in 10 seconds flat. The writing occasionally drags, but Keogh keeps it moving smartly through the rough patches.
