Wodehouse struggled with the writing of this 1933 sequel to Summer Lightning, but it doesn't show in the seamless, hilarious narrative. And Wodehouse hasn't had a better reader since Edward Duke in Jeeves Takes Charge (Earphones Award, AudioFile, Oct.'92). Jeremy Sinden reads Wodehouse with unrestrained delight, delineating each character with lyrical relish. The matrons are pompous and high-blown; the men are offhanded, with voices raised and lowered as asides and "I say's" fly about. It's impossible not to be entertained by Wodehouse, especially in the hands of a master reader like this one. D.W. Winner of AUDIOFILE Earphones Award ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: APR 94]
