HIGHLAND LADDIE GONE

Sharon McCrumb successfully combines light romance, mystery, and the social satire of gullible Americans who go overboard in researching their genealogical heritage in Scotland. Davinia Porter appropriately provides different voices and emotions for the characters. She is at her best with the three Scots in the story. While her British accent is not heavy, it seems too cultured for the Americans. This is problematic because some of the murder clues relate to misunderstandings due to the similar, but different, English spoken on either side of the Atlantic. This is delightful, escapist fun.
