THE JUDAS JUDGE

by | Read by Bruce Greenwood

Mystery & Suspense • 4.5 hrs. • Abridged • © 2000

The story begins abruptly with the news of six New Mexico campsite murders. One victim is of a prominent judge, and Deputy State Police Chief Kevin Kerney must decide whether a spree killer or one of the judge's messed-up heirs is responsible. Meanwhile, the happily married Kerney discovers he has a grown half-Native American son, the offspring of a college romance. Kerney is a decent man, tough but kind, and Greenwood's pleasant voice reinforces this. Light moments are particularly well delivered. The various suspects are more memorable for their hang-ups than for their voices, with the exception of a rogue cop with an unexplained Eastern accent. If you like psycho-sexual mysteries read with care, if not brilliance, this is for you. Chief Kerney decides to retire, but, as this is the fifth in a series, don't bet on it.
