Considered the funniest crime novelist in Great Britain, Mike Ripley is the author of 10 novels featuring Fitzroy Maclean Angel. JUST ANOTHER ANGEL introduces the roguish hero, who is at times a jazz trumpeter, a hash dealer, a transporter of stolen goods, and, ironically, a tool for the cause of justice. Raymond Sawyer’s wonderful voice is not well cast for the rapid-fire patter of Ripley’s writing. While his character interpretation and smooth intonation are pleasing, his timing and tone are off-key for this rollicking adventure, and he also struggles against the pops and hisses of poor tape duplication.
