ABOVE THE LAW

The best parts of this thriller are its exciting beginning and its subtle end. Thanks to Hill's sterling performance, the reviewer hung on between the two. The story begins with a DEA raid on a drug lord's lair, but it plods considerably after its principal character is hired by the State of California to investigate a DEA agent accused of the drug boss's murder. Hill is at his best during the trial, when he must be, almost simultaneously, a crotchety judge and two out-of-control opposing lawyers. As Hill switches from role to role, he doesn't miss a beat.
