LAST RITES

Inspector Charley Resnick and his CID team have become very popular players in the British police procedural genre over the past decade. LAST RITES is described by the author as Resnick's final case, though there is nothing in the book itself that would prevent his return. The tale involves two concurrent but independent inquiries that involve the whole team. Narrator Ron Keith gives each of Resnick's team members an independent voice consistent with the personality described by the author. He also does very well with the non-police characters involved in the two cases, especially with the brother-sister interactions that are central to one inquiry. Keith is especially effective in conveying the emotions experienced by the characters. One can only hope that this is not Resnick's final case.
