Les Brown is one of the most successful of the current crop of "motivational speakers," whose self-appointed mission is to convince corporate executives and others they can accomplish unlimited wonders if they only believe they can. His vocal presence is bright and charming, and he inspires indeed, especially by setting forth his own example: an orphan, raised in poverty, diagnosed as "retarded," who has achieved incredible success as . . . a motivation expert.
