This is a fascinating autobiography; a history of a problem, as well as a person. Donna Williams is an autistic, high-functioning individual who discusses her condition with such sensitivity that it is sure to help others who suffer from it. The narrative always reflects one of Williams's three "personalities"--Willy, the achiever who graduates from college with honors, Carol; the social butterfly who makes friends easily; and Donna, lonely, emotionally crippled and courageously looking for reasons why she is so unlike everyone else. Kate Reading changes her reading of each of these character facets without changing her voice, thus showing us what it must be like to BE Donna Williams.
