ON FIELDS OF FURY

On Fields of Fury dramatizes Ulysses Grant's attempt to crush the South in the spring and summer of 1864 by "continuous hammering." In the words of those who lived and fought, Wheeler propels us through the futile bloodbath of the Wilderness to the bungling at the Crater, where the North could have ended the war. Kandinsky skillfully reads the voice of Northern general and backwoods Southern private. Together author and narrator produce a rich, oral tapestry of voices, feelings and faces set in the larger framework of events seemingly outside anyone's control.
