A sequel to the well-respected A Day No Pigs Would Die, this audiobook is of equal quality in theme, style and storyline. It carries with it the added benefit of being expertly performed by Terry Bregy. Both deal with a Shaker boy and his maturation on a Vermont farm in the 1920's. Especially stressed are the boy's love for his family and the farm animals, as well as the importance of the land. While at times overly emphatic, Bregy delivers a fine performance, capturing well the New Hampshire/Vermont backwoods accent. His vocal characterizations are excellent, and the pacing is appropriate. An added treat is hearing creative regionalisms, such as "a man so crooked he could hide behind a corkscrew." Especially inspiring and instructive for young adults, Bregy's interpretation underscores the goodness of Shaker ways. P.W. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JAN 95]
