Martin Vail, a brash, young public defender appointed to the case, uncovers a trail of brutal psycho-sexual intrigue. The lurid details may offend some, but Will Patton's forceful reading generates considerable interest, thanks to the emotional range he calls upon. Scenes are introduced in an insistent, edgy tone, and the many characterizations are all startlingly vivid.
