PRESUMED INNOCENT

Twenty-three years ago Scott Turow’s PRESUMED INNOCENT started a new wave of courtroom dramas that continues to this day. Even as his sequel, INNOCENT, is released, the original still proves to be one of the best legal thrillers ever. Actor Edward Herrmann performs both works, and his gravitas makes it hard to imagine anyone else in that role. PRESUMED INNOCENT finds Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Rusty Sabich accused of murdering his former mistress, who was also sleeping with half the lawyers in mythical Kindle County (Illinois). Herrmann is an outstanding performer. His rich voice brings the main characters, Sabich and others, to vivid life. He is especially glorious in his interpretation of the elegant defense attorney Sandy Stern, who becomes the fulcrum upon which the plot pivots. M.S.
