THE ROSE REVIVED

May, Harriet and Sally are modern British women brought together by their need to earn money quickly. Their friendship helps them through difficulties with their sleazy employer, money and men, as each attempts to define her future and true desires. Reader Eve Matheson distinguishes each woman and the men in their lives; her flexible voice and theatrical training serve her well. By using a variety of British accents and speech patterns, she also succeeds in clearly sketching secondary characters. Matheson's ability to offer a full range of emotions for each person makes this especially enjoyable. Though predictable, the story is humorous and candid and full of likable characters.
