Against her wishes, Miranda Heath, a penniless, young woman, is forced to marry Brock McKleen, a dark, foreboding man, in this typical Gothic romance. Family secrets slowly come to light as Miranda searches for clues to past and present murders. No music or sound effects mar the narration, and Kate Harper puts her deep melodious voice to good use as she changes it for each character. While the vocal changes are not always consistent, the story revolves around Miranda's tumultuous existence at Bascomb's Point, and the narrator does a credible job portraying this.
