Gabby, the dutiful wife of an emotionally abusive husband, moved to Chicago to support his business career. Her genuine shock when he changes the penthouse locks turns to fear and then anger when her credit cards and cell phone are cancelled. But nothing prepares her for the loss of her two sons when her husband vanishes with them. In this second installment in the Yada Yada House of Hope series, Barbara Rosenblat delivers a credible cast of characters with tight pacing, accents, and textured characterizations as Gabby moves in with friends and co-workers at Manna House, a women’s shelter where she works. Rosenblat portrays residents’ loneliness and fear with a subtle balance of comic relief. Listeners feel the emotional depths of the Yada Yada Bible Study Prayer Group and Gabby’s sick elderly mother through Rosenblat’s compassionate delivery.
