Julian, an exiled Cuban Poet, modeled after Jose Marti (a Cuban poet and revolutionary), after nine years of wandering, lands in Mexico City, where he proposes to Lucia, daughter of a Cuban lawyer. But Julian, seeking position and income, goes to Guatemala City where he falls madly in love with Sol, daughter of Don Manuel (Guatemala’s liberator). In an emotionally detached intonation Morgan takes the listener through the mental anguish of these characters as they try to see their way through life. Morgan’s portrayal of Julian as the highly moral man who must do his duty yet follow his destiny is exacting. Throughout, Morgan enunciates each word and lulls the listener with Bernardo's repetitious text. M.B.K. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 00]
