This novel recounts the lives of Elizabeth Ashbridge and her sister Ruth and the unspoken sibling rivalry between them, which continues into adulthood. Veteran actress Diana Rigg portrays Ruth as sinister and Elizabeth as "perfect," an interesting juxtaposition to the plot, which revolves around family relationships and lusting after husbands. Creating whole personalities, Rigg brings out the underlying evil in Ruth and the basic näiveté in Elizabeth.
