CNN Special Correspondent and Anchor Soledad O’Brien was born of mixed-race parents on Long Island, New York. Through behind-the-scenes anecdotes and insightful commentary, her memoir recounts her life and career, which she describes as a journey of possibilities. Coleen Marlo’s quiet, gentle voice is well suited to the author’s sincerity and compassion, so often shown in her reporting of cataclysmic world events. Yet Marlo’s performance is too subdued for the proud and independent sensibility also comes through in O’Brien’s book. The understated narration shines in its emotional scenes but does not hold the listener’s attention amid O’Brien’s exposition on the relationship between success and personal drive in America.
