THE PROMISES SHE KEEPS

Ann Harrison portrays a terminally ill young woman named Promise and the cast of strange, whimsical characters who surround her: an artist; his mother, an aging sorceress; and an autistic young man who is obsessed with the Bible. Harrison uses authentic-sounding tones to make all of them sound fully credible. She excels in her delivery of the story’s multiple plot twists and takes listeners to the totally unforeseen ending without giving it away. The occult parts of the story place its Christian values in high relief. The happy result is a satisfying faith-based thriller that builds suspense out of the characters’ deep need for love and hope.
