Taking his lead from the classic Orson Welles "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast, Greenhalgh uses the device of a radio series to tell an apocalyptic story—with a bit of humor. As a peak-oil society, the U.S. is just barely holding together. When rioting citizens and militia groups throw what little stability is left into chaos, radio station WKIT manages to stay together long enough to report the events as they unfold. The rich mixture of music and sound effects, along with a caricatured version of radio DJ Wolfman Jack, proves an amusing and exciting mix. As the first in a series, it sets the bar high for future episodes. L.E. © AudioFile 2012, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2012]
