Onetime director of the British Museum Neil MacGregor takes listeners on an aural tour of history through 100 objects found within that connect humans from their earliest ancestors to modern times. As well as guiding listeners through cultures and events of the past, MacGregor introduces listeners a range of scholarship and debates on history and museums. Each object is explored in a 15-minute discussion, which usually includes interviews with historians, archaeologists, and other experts. Musical segues and interludes are lightly interspersed throughout each episode and are thematically related to each object being discussed.
