A DARK AND LONELY PLACE

Buchanan’s latest poses the question: Can we change our destiny? There are two stories with parallel settings—modern-day Miami and early-twentieth-century south Florida. Each story line features a man named John Ashley; each of them is well respected, loves a woman named Laura, and ends up on the lam. Narrator Robertson Dean does a credible job sorting through the wide variety of characters and their varied speech patterns. He’s at his best providing vivid word pictures of the heroics of both John Ashleys on the run. This book’s unique premise, remarkable characters, and historical background may capture the attention of most listeners, but some may find it challenging to remain fully engaged in the lives of both John Ashleys.
