Narrator Ramon de Ocampo delivers another solid performance as Greg, “the wimpy kid” who monologues about the random mundanity of his suburban life. It’s almost Christmas, and he’s too broke to buy gifts. All his moneymaking schemes fail. When the worst scheme leads to accidental vandalism, Greg’s fear of the police joins the landscape of his spiraling mind. His wandering thoughts regularly turn to the well-being of his virtual pet Chihuahua. De Ocampo’s pacing and delivery enhance the humor of Greg's worries while diminishing their emotional turmoil. De Ocampo grounds the free-association style of narration with pauses in which the clicking gears in Greg’s mind are almost audible. A.M.P. © AudioFile 2012, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2012]
