Read by two excellent actors, this audiobook presents the lives of two insightful and interesting people. It has two readers because it alternately presents the perspective of Milton, a Nobel Laureate in economics, and his wife and frequent collaborator, Rose. James, the voice of Milton, has an intellectual sounding but subdued voice. It is not pretentious and overwrought. Gavin, the voice of Rose, also sounds intelligent and communicates much empathy. Both readers are strikingly clear and have an excellent pace. The audiobook speaks of being the children of immigrants before the Great Depression, studying economics, working for government agencies, teaching and writing about economics, and frequent travel. Part One ends in the 1960s. M.L.C. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC/JAN 01]
