Author Brenda J. Child presents a comprehensive history of Ojibwe women's contributions to their culture and the roles these women played in a rapidly changing American landscape. Child's work is academic in scope and includes an abundance of quotes and references to historical documents. Narrator Alma Cuervo's clear, confident, and mature voicing as well as her informative tone is appropriate for a work focusing on the importance of the role of Ojibwe women in their society. The quantity of detail and the academic nature of the work, however, can make the book difficult to fully absorb in the audio format.
