VELVET ANTLERS, VELVET NOSES

Enthusiasts of the Herriot series and books by Gerald Durrell will be charmed by this introduction to the world of reindeer. The writing is episodic, much like a series of lectures. Franklin reads with a gusto that’s quite infectious even as the listener wonders if this isn’t more than one really wants to know. As a book, such a question might cause it to be quickly set aside, but few will be able to resist Franklin. Her humor and interest reflect the author’s devotion and expertise, as well as an ability to laugh in the midst of frustration. It all becomes lively listening.
