Halpern’s collection of relationship faux pas is filtered through interactions between himself and his father (of the famous SH*T MY DAD SAYS). It’s a mixed blessing as an audiobook. Narrator Sean Schemmel provides a rich rendering of Halpern’s father with a deep, raspy voice and emphatic intonations. He delivers the father’s outrageous lines with great timing and attitude. In contrast, Schemmel’s rendering of Halpern himself is less appealing. While Schemmel does make Halpern’s voice animated and engaging, it pales compared to his father’s. Listeners spend much of their time tolerating Halpern just to get to the parts where his father is talking. Despite this weakness, the production is worth the laughs.
