Tami Lynn Taylor, a Christian law student, begins her internship at a prestigious Georgia law firm. She represents Moses Jones, an elderly black man accused of trespassing who Tami discovers may be connected to a girl’s death years ago. Narrator Suzy Jackson successfully portrays Tami’s innocence and youth, bringing her to life as she leaves home for the first time and tries to balance her values with the demands of her job. Jackson easily differentiates Tami’s polite, soft-spoken voice from the deeper drawls and Southern slang of Moses. Jackson’s delivery enhances the novel’s Southern setting while unveiling the mystery of Moses’s connection to the girl’s death. D.Z. © AudioFile 2012, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2012]
