TRUE SISTERS

This novel follows the harrowing journey of Mormon converts who are pushing handcarts 1,300 miles from Iowa City to the “Promised Land” of Salt Lake City. Dallas focuses on four women and their families’ hardships to make the dry facts heartrendingly real. The sanctimonious arrogance of men who insisted on forcing the departure too late in the season with no apparent planning and too few supplies prepares the listener for the unhappy adventure that follows. With her steady, straightforward delivery, Christina Moore keeps the large cast straight for the listener. She moves smoothly from the voyage to the various backstories, but the listener is soon immersed in the abyss of despair these woefully unprepared “saints” walked into.
