Drew Robinson, nicknamed True for his phenomenal basketball skills, is a high school junior who completely comes to life in Prentice Onayemi's narration. Mostly everything is easy for True, even school since his best friend does most of his work. Then he has to write a paper about another young star who crashed and burned believing his own reputation. True meets Urban Sellers on a neighborhood court, and he comes off as the "ghost of basketball future." The terrific sports scenes are narrated with clarity and brisk pacing by Onayemi. Adults are also well developed, especially the false demeanour of True's friend/financial backer and his mother's pride and concern when True goes seriously astray and nearly destroys his future.
