This installment in the Dr. Lance Elliot mystery series, set in 1970s London, has Lance taking time off from solving murders to see the film Annie Hall with his girlfriend, Max. Narrator Seán Barrett flawlessly presents Lance and his moving yet humorous relationship with his widower father and his prickly dealings with Detective Inspector Masson, who suspects Lance of interfering with his investigations at every turn. When multiple high school teachers turn up dead at a school where his dad volunteers, Lance suspects a serial murderer at work and swings into action. Along with his usually accurate insight into crime, Lance has a wickedly delicious sense of humor. Barrett's pacing guarantees that the funny lines are perfectly delivered.
