THE WHITE FOREST

McOmber’s debut novel is a complex mix of Victorian gothic, history, mythology, and religion. It draws the characters into a mysterious secret society that promises a doorway into a new spiritualist dimension. Set in Victorian England, shortly after the Crimean War, it tells the story of Jane Silverlake and the complicated love triangle/friendship she is involved in with her two friends, Madeline and Nathan. Susan Duerden’s narration complements McOmber’s atmospheric and suspenseful prose, transporting the listener to a place where imagination and reality muddle their lines. She gives each character a unique personality through their voices.
