DANGEROUS AFFAIRS

Karen White’s buttery voice is alluring as soap opera celebrity Abby Langford, who leaves Los Angeles and relocates in her hometown in Minnesota. Instead of finding a cozy, quiet life, Abby discovers a bloody knife and starts receiving threats on her life. White’s modulated tones convey the indifference of Police Chief Joshua Kincaid, who believes the warnings are simply a publicity stunt by Abby. Though White blurs the characters’ voices for the first part of the narration, her full-bodied tones and appropriate pacing maintain the suspense in this romantic mystery. Even better, she believably delivers the sexual tension that develops as Josh realizes that the threats on Abby’s life are very real—and so is his growing attraction to her.
