FUJISAN

In this short story collection, Brian Nishii's narration keeps up with the variety of characters who span the range from male to female, young and old. He changes his pitch, tone, and pace to indicate the differences between the narrators of the various stories and the many characters that populate them. Bringing the dialogue to life in a realistic fashion, he mimics the pace of natural speech between people in everyday situations. Longing and nostalgia are themes brought out by Nishii's heartfelt rendering of these works. The subdued tones are contrasted by loud, harsh tones when necessitated by the plot.
