Amy Rubinate takes Audrey through a time of awakening as she learns the truth about her mother's crime-fighting activities and her heritage as one of the Kin--those who keep the nasty demons, known as "harrowers," at bay. In doing so, she expands on her ability to see into the past and the future, which until now has been of primary use in reading tarot cards for her friends. Rubinate's voice reflects Audrey's growth as her worldview expands and she decides to take a role in keeping the city safe. In addition, Rubinate's portrayals of the story's supporting characters break up the internal monologues, and their interactions provide Audrey with needed support.
