THE CURSE OF MONTEZUMA

Earphones Award Winner

by | Read by Jeff Harding

Western • 7.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2006

Narrator Jeff Harding perfectly characterizes the heroes in this collection of three Western stories. In “Commanche Legend,” Caddo Adair encounters difficulties as he attempts to capture Custer’s wild horse, Commanche, who has gone wild after the Battle of the Little Big Horn. The second story, “The Legend of Yallow Hole,” involves two cattle rustlers and a woman who has a job for them. The title piece recounts an attempted reincarnation of the Aztec empire and the further adventures of Algera Douglas, also known as Senorita Scorpion. Harding’s voice is versatile and easy to listen to. He portrays the cowboys with a gritty timbre, which he makes smoother and softer for the women. Savage’s iconic West is violent but touched by the poetry of his atmospheric descriptions. S.C.A. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2013]
