James Henry is carrying on a series begun by the late R.D. Wingfield, featuring rumpled and sometimes maddening Police Inspector Jack Frost. It's a bit of literary ventriloquism on the page, and even more so for Stephen Thorne who is re-creating a character known to many from radio and television, at least in the UK. A success on every level, this production finds Frost in bad odor with his wife and in-laws; at cross purposes with his sometime lover, Detective Constable Sue Clark; and exasperating his fool of a boss, Superintendent Mullet, while young people from the best part of Denton are turning up dead and Mullet's country club pals are being burgled. Thorne's mastery of pace, accent, and attitude delivers foolproof entertainment. B.G. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2013]
