Mercenary soldier Thomas Lang’s wit and cleverness get him into as much trouble as they get him out of. When he finds himself a member of a terrorist group, a front created by an arms dealer to dupe the CIA, he may be in over his head. Simon Prebble’s deadpan delivery of Lang’s relentless badinage tethers the character, which, as written, could easily drift into self-mockery. Prebble saves his theatrics for the colorful supporting cast of espionage regulars, whom he depicts with flair and variety, enhancing Laurie’s send-up of these stock characters. This espionage thriller-romp by the British actor who played Dr. Gregory House on TV deftly balances humor and suspense.
