Ezekiel Emanuel takes a chronological look at his family's life and their Jewish-American identity while offering keen insights into what shaped him and his two brothers. The author became a doctor, and Rahm and Ari also excel in their fields, politics and entertainment, respectively. Emanuel's narration voice sounds genuine, and his presentation of his brothers is evenhanded. He doesn't allow his own personal stories to dominate; he includes many interesting anecdotes about both of his higher profile brothers. His voice, while suitably emotional at times, is not that of a polished narrator. However, that doesn't mar this well-written memoir of a rich family history and an honest account of the siblings.
