MONSIEUR RENÉ

by | Read by Peter Ustinov

Fiction • 10.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2000

Monsieur René, a retired concierge in Geneva, is the Permanent President of the International Brotherhood of Concierges and Hall Porters. At age 70, he is bored. Believing that hotel employees can learn more about hotel guests than any police organization, Monsieur René soon becomes a one-man investigative force, working closely with the Geneva Chief of Police. Author/narrator Peter Ustinov has a great deal of fun early on, when his cast of potential hotel-based spies includes an Italian, a Brit, a Spaniard, and a German, each speaking his own brand of accented English. Few narrators are as linguistically versatile. As the tale proceeds, the number of voices is reduced, and we settle down to always identifiable voices. Ustinov fans will be entranced, and all listeners will be thoroughly entertained. R.E.K. © AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 01]
