AGAINST THE TIDE

When Lydia teams up with the handsome Bainbridge to thwart an opium-smuggling ring, she risks losing the stability and security she never had as a child but has finally achieved with her job as a translator. Barbara Rosenblat's full-bodied voice brings out Lydia's financial and social vulnerabilities as well as her spirited personality. Rosenblat's deeper tones portray Bainbridge with a cheeky arrogance that hints at his underlying sensitivity. While most pauses convey the suspenseful plot, some are unnaturally extended. In addition to the sinister Professor, with his deliberate and unrushed speech, Rosenblat's characterizations include a multitude of European accents that keep the story moving.
