SATANTA'S WOMAN

Nanette Savard elegantly and enthusiastically reads this nontraditional Western about a Christian woman's spiritual and emotional journey as she learns to live as a Kiowa woman. Adrianne Chastain, as portrayed by Savard and Haseloff, is a '90s-type woman--strong, independent, and outspoken. When Adrianne expresses her feelings and opinions, the war chief Satanta frequently tells her, "You are not pleasant in the morning." Savard's tempo is slow, and her volume is soft but clear. She enacts both lead characters majestically and with dignity even when they're in compromising positions. An outstanding performance of a unique story makes this a memorable listening experience.
