A beautiful child named Ewan is stolen from his bed by fairies and replaced with a dreadful changeling who forever resents Ewan's being able to live with the fairies. Colby, neglected and spending his solitary life in the woods, meets a genie and gets his wish to see everything in the world around him. When Colby and Ewan meet, all three lives are linked forever in this dark look at fairies and their interventions in the human world. Narrator Vikas Adam draws on a colorful store of accents and voices for the extensive cast. A few of them are portrayed as raucous and jarring, a style that fits their characters but is a bit grating. Adam maintains the pace as the story alternates with readings from a primer on fairies.
