This is a somewhat uneven collection of both BBC radio and television interviews, conducted between 1955 to 1980. Among other things, Alfred Hitchcock, in his characteristic macabre "sotto voce," discusses the time he was locked in a police cell when he was a child at his father's request. Interview questions address his early films, the introduction of "talkies," and his development as a legendary director. He discusses avoiding clichés, murder in film, and the importance of music and silence in film. Due to the age and nature of this archival material, the sound varies. Nonetheless, the sound and style of these broadcasts will bring back memories for some and inform younger listeners. The stories, questions, and answers are all too familiar for Hitchcock fans, but it is nonetheless a treat to hear the man himself relate his perspective.
