MEMENTO MORI

Listening to this narration of Spark's celebrated novel is like being dropped into England itself. Eve Karpf's performance gambols among voices and accents with aplomb, capturing nuances of tone and mood with ease. Despite the somber title--which means "remember that you will die"--the novel is laced with humor and dwells less on the idea of death than the appreciation of life. The interactions between characters are a highlight, thanks to Karpf's vocal talents. The plot can languish in spots, but Karpf carries the audiobook ably.
