LITTLE KNELL

This is the latest in Aird's popular, amusing series featuring Inspector CD Sloan and the inept Constable Crosby. The crimes under investigation include murder, drug smuggling, money laundering, attempted bribery of a police officer, and removal of a corpse without the coroner's permission. The trail to the guilty party takes all the false directions, bumps, and diversions that one expects from a cast of eccentrics common to British mysteries. Bruce Montague paces his narration well to reflect both the suspense and subtle humor of Aird's writing. He gives distinct voices to the many characters and creates strong vocal characterizations.
