James Clamp's is well cast in this audiobook. He has a voice nimble enough to be believable not only as a young man but also as a king. His delight in the story is evident; enthusiasm and cheer shine through nearly every word. The book itself is in need of some good editing, but Clamp takes what could have been a tedious experience and makes it a lively one. He brings forth the sense of adventure of a young man making his way in the world, a young man who defies his mother and sets out on his own to fulfill his dream of becoming a falconer.
